Welcome to Acorn Shores Resort, where tranquil waters and promising fishing adventures await. The Resort is located on McClaine Lake on the Tiger Cat Flowage 15 minutes from Hayward, WI. Picture 1,065 acres of natural beauty, featuring lakes like McClaine, Upper Twin, Lower Twin, Placid, Burns, and Clear – each with its own unique charm.

This drainage-type lake isn't just a pretty face; it boasts a shore length that'll make any angler's heart skip a beat – 29.69 miles of prime fishing real estate. Dive into its depths, and you'll discover a maximum depth of 30 feet and water clarity that reveals the underwater world up to 10 feet. The littoral bottom is a blend of 20% sand, 10% gravel, 5% bedrock, and a whopping 65% detritus – a true underwater fashion show!

Getting to the Tiger Cat Flowage is a breeze – the concrete ramp located near hayward power sports lets out into Upper Twin, and from there you can use the navigable channel to dock at Acorn Shores. VIP entrance, anyone?

Now, let's talk fish. Tiger Cat Flowage is the VIP lounge for muskie aficionados. Sure, they might be on the smaller side, averaging 22 inches, but trust us, it's a muskie "action lake" – the party never stops! Walleyes, largemouth bass, bluegills, crappies, and perch are all on the guest list. And guess what? Northern pike decided to crash the party too! Young kids and families will enjoy fishing for pan fish right from one of the docks at acorn shores. As long as you use some sort of live bait, you will get a bite!

In conclusion, pack your rods, grab your tackle box, and head to Tiger Cat Flowage for a fishing adventure like no other. Acorn Shores Resort welcomes you to the ultimate fisherman's haven – where every cast is a story, and every catch is a memory.
Top Ten Reasons to Visit in the Spring

Wondering when to plan your vacation to Wisconsin's Northwoods? We have lots of guests who come in the summers to enjoy the Lake and the River, lots of guests in the fall to enjoy fires and fall colors, and lots of guests in the winters to enjoy snowmobiling, ski-ing, and other winter sports, but in spring, our bookings tend to slow down. So why do we believe it is one of the best times to come? Here are our top 10 reasons to visit us in the spring:

            Cooler temperatures

mean clearer skies for stargazing (and this year, viewing the northern lights!) Sit on the dock or around the firepit and see what you can see.

come alive! Not really, they were probably already living, but you WILL likely see more deer, foxes, rabbits, squirrels eagles and loons at this time of year.

            Less Traffic

-The Northwoods can be busy with traffic in the summers, but in the spring it is still slow so that means less congestion on the roads!

-The lake we are on is typically quiet, but it is even more peaceful in the spring when there aren't as many people around. Take the kayaks out for a morning paddle and enjoy the lake all to yourself!

!-During this season, we have several discounts that are available (depending on the timing). Right now, we are offering a special on weekday getaways: buy 2 nights, get one free with check-ins anytime between Sunday and Tuesday.

-the night minimum in the spring is only 2 nights, in the summer our minimums increase to 4-7 nights.

            Few to no bugs

! Because the temperatures are still fairly cool there aren't many bugs at this time of year.

            More vacation time

-because we are less busy and usually have a few days between guests, chances are high that we can grant early check-in and/or late check-out.

We are beginning a new series, a bit of a behind the scenes look at our favorite Temu finds that we use in our Wildwood Escapes properties.

We love Temu because it is a good way to provide extra special small amenities that our guests love for budget prices. In this post, we will give you some of our top finds that are ready to use, and provide links (but keep in mind that Temu doesn't always have stock of the same items, though usually similar products can be found). These items are all things we use in our properties and have loved. Check out our Instagram page for videos on where we use the products, and also follow us as we will be showcasing photos all of our wonderful Temu hack ideas there!

Lockbox-We use smart locks so that our guests can check-in at their convenience, so having a lockbox with a key is essential for when Wisconsin winters get to -20 degrees and our batteries and electronics decide to stop working. These lock boxes are functional and screw into the wall wherever you need them. One small adaptation we have made is to label them because at Acorn Shores we have two buildings, so want to make sure it's clear which one holds which key.

Microfiber cleaning cloths-These are small but mighty. Our guests can use them for anything from electronics to countertops without us fearing that a harsh cleaning chemical was needed or that it will scratch screens.

Silicone baking tool sets-These silicone tools are great! They don't scratch, are pretty durable, and for $3 for a 5 piece set, you really can't beat the price. This particular set just happens to match my color scheme, but there are a variety of different sets available for under $10.

Coffee bar anti-drip mat-we have this mat on our coffee bar cart at Chippewa River Cabin. It catches all the spills and protects the wood top of the cart, but also has cute branding that looks great in photos.

Acrylic bathroom vanity containers with bamboo tops-These cute containers are great for storing the floss picks and q-tips we like to make sure the bathrooms are stocked with at Wildwood Escapes properties. If you wanted to upcycle them a bit, you could add on-brand labels to them, but we've left them as is.

The Top 10 Things That Will Ruin Your Summer Vacation...

Not purchasing a fishing license ahead of time

. Not only is it illegal to fish without a license, but it can also be costly if you are caught. Fishing licenses are relatively affordable and are easy to purchase online. Make sure to check your local regulations to ensure you are fishing legally.

            Not being prepared for campfires

. Not bringing enough firewood for a lake vacation is a common mistake that can ruin your night around the campfire. Make sure to bring enough firewood to last the duration of your trip and to have a backup plan in case you need more. In Wisconsin, it is illegal to bring firewood across county lines. At Wildwood Escapes we provide firewood for our guests, but make sure if your rental doesn't have any that you plan accordingly. Later this summer we will post about all our favorite places to get firewood around Hayward. Follow us for more so you don't miss it!

Waiting until the last minute to rent a boat

. Waiting until the last minute to rent a boat can be a costly mistake. Boats are usually rented out quickly during the summer months, so if you wait too long, you may not be able to find one that is available. Plus, boat rental prices can go up significantly during the peak season, so be sure to plan ahead and book your boat in advance.

            Not bringing water shoes

. Even if you lucked out and found a rental with a perfect sand beach, Wisconsin lake beds can still be mucky or rocky in places. It's a good idea to bring water shoes so you can swim without worrying about where you step!

            Not booking your rental directly

. Booking your rental directly through the host will not only save you up to several hundreds in platform fees, it will also possibly get you other perks such as special check-in privileges or welcome gifts. Pro tip: use Google to find out if the place you are trying to book has a direct booking site.

            Forgetting the bug spray

            .

Planning to eat out early in the week

. Most restaurants in the Hayward area have limited or no hours Mondays-Wednesdays. If you are planning to eat out during your stay, it’s best to plan on treying for the end of the week.

            Not bringing your favorite coffee

. In many counties in Wisconsin, regulations prohibit hosts from supplying anything that isn’t single serve. If you aren’t a fan of kcups or pods, it’s best to bring your own joe for your favorite vacation brews!

            Not checking your route

. Make sure when planning your route you take a major highway if you are traveling with young children who may need bathroom breaks! As you enter the northern part of the state, some of the roads have few to no stops, so learn from our experience and figure out a way that has a good number of gas stations!

            Not checking the weather

. Wisconsin is always unpredictable! Packing for a variety of weather conditions is always a good idea, especially if you are planning beach days or other outdoor activities!

The Best Waterfall in Northern Wisconsin

If you're looking for a great hiking spot that offers unparalleled views of Lake Superior and its surroundings, St. Peter’s Dome and Morgan Falls is for you! The trek to the 80-foot falls is flat and relatively easy. The path to St. Peter’s Dome is slightly more difficult and rugged and is 4.2 miles long, but would be doable for families with elementary aged kids and older. We packed our picnic lunch from Miller’s Market in Hayward to enjoy at the top, and highly recommend it for a fun experience!

           Practical Considerations:

The trail is located about an hour drive from Hayward and requires a $5 cash parking fee per vehicle.

We recommend if you aren’t going to picnic to bring water and snacks, as well as plenty of bug spray. It took us about 2.5 hours to do both the falls and the dome, but we didn’t have our kids along.

There are bathrooms located at the trailhead and the hiking trail allows dogs on a leash.
